Peavey founder and CEO featured on tourism billboards for Meridian, Mississippi

Peavey Int'l. Headquarters—Hartley Peavey is the latest homegrown celebrity featured in the Meridian/Lauderdale County Tourism Bureau's ongoing "Come See My Hometown" billboard campaign. The bureau has placed Peavey's first billboard on Interstate 20/59 near the main exit for downtown Meridian, Miss.

"Meridian is rich with talent and ingenuity, as evidenced by those who are born here and rise to such notable acclaim," says Wanda Grabert, executive director of the Meridian/Lauderdale County Tourism Bureau. "I was sitting at a function in a castle in East Germany not long after the Berlin Wall fell, and looked up to see that a Peavey system was being used for sound. Hartley Peavey is responsible for putting Meridian not only in the national marketplace, but in a prominent global position, as well."

"I'm honored that Lauderdale County chose to feature me in their new billboard campaign," says founder and CEO Hartley Peavey. "Meridian is my hometown and the place I chose to start my company 40 years ago. I sincerely hope that this will have a positive economic impact on Meridian and on Mississippi."

In addition to the Meridian billboard, the tourism bureau leases billboards in Hattiesburg, Miss., and Tuscaloosa, Ala., and plan to feature Peavey on those, as well. "Come See My Hometown" is a campaign that showcases celebrities who have roots in Meridian and Lauderdale County.

Other personalities featured in the billboard campaign include Sela Ward, actress; Dexter McCleon and Kenyatta Walker, Super Bowl champs; Jay Powell, 1997 World Series winning pitcher; and Jimmie Rodgers, renowned songwriter and musician. The celebrities are rotated among the three locations.
