Jerry Brightman
Jerry was born in Akron, OH in 1953. He began playing non-pedal steel guitar at the age of six. At the age of twelve, Jerry began playing during the summers at Ponderosa Park, in eastern Ohio, a 10,000 seat outdoor theater. The park provided a venue for major country music acts to perform during the mid to late 60s. Needless to say, Jerry was exposed and became friends with many of the great, all time legendary players and singers, and was recognized for the talent he possessed. In Oct. of 1969, at the age of 16, Jerry was asked to join the staff band at The Wheeling Jamboree in Wheeling, W. Va. as the youngest signed member in their history. More than a 1/4 of million listeners heard the Saturday night live broadcast each Saturday. Jerry's playing was now beginning to branch out to many more fans. His exposure to the major country acts was now occurring every Saturday night as each major artist visited. During this time, he backed Connie Smith, Lynn Anderson, Dick Curless, Johnny Russell, Dave Dudley, John Conlee, and many others. In 1972 someone would change Jerry's musical life forever. He would recieve a phone call from Buck Owens. After a one-week visit to Buck's studio, Jerry was asked to become a Buckaroo at the age of 18 years old.
